The Schoolhouse, Battersea
Set in a small, slightly crowded room of desks, whiteboards and book shelves, The Schoolhouse takes you back a few years, without the pressure of the lessons. We were directed to the smallest table in the corner, a little too close and crammed in behind another table, so it wasn’t the most relaxing experience. Our order mainly consisted of the standard avocado, eggs, sourdough toast and smoked salmon with some maple pancakes to share. The menu is roughly £10 per meal, so not the cheapest by definitely not the most expensive London brunch I’ve experienced.
The food was good, nothing to write home about but good. When eating out, I usually like there to be something different about the food, maybe a strange use of flavours or something I wouldn’t easily be able to make at home. This didn’t deliver that, unfortunately. I could easily whip this same meal up myself for a fraction of the price.
The cramped setting and lack of creativity in the food means it gets a thumbs-down from me. I’d pick somewhere like The Brew over this as the meals have more flavour and fun twists on standard recipes.
