Cabana, Multiple Locations
I had such high hopes for Cabana. From the outside, it's quirky and full of personality. We'd managed to secure a great offer of 3 courses for £19.50 so with a cheap night with friends in front of me, I was excited to be trying a new place.
Surrounding by singing and dancing waiters, the restaurant oozed personality and the menu, full of fancy chicken skewers, burgers, burritos and much more, was a great choice for an evening catch-up.
I ordered the sweet potato hummus for starters, the mushroom and halloumi burger for main and some ice-cream for dessert. The sweet potato hummus was delicious with grilled pitta, perfectly creamy that complimented the crunch of the pitta.
The burger looked promising but as soon as I delved in for that first bite, I knew I'd made a mistake. I often order a vegetarian meal as I love so many of the ingredients, but this felt like a veggie overload. It's as if they listed out everything that could replace meat and chucked it all in the burger. Black beans covered in juice made it extremely messy, while the chunky tomato and stacked halloumi meant it fell to pieces as soon as you took a bite. Overwhelmed by the beans, I ended up pulling it apart and removing that majority of the filling. If it had simply been halloumi, mushroom and a bit of salad, it would definitely have been a lot tastier.
The ice-cream restored a little faith, perfectly creamy and full of flavour. While I won't be rushing back to Cabana, it wasn't awful. The atmosphere is buzzing and the menu is jam-packed with things to choose from. Nevertheless, Cabana it's a thumbs-down from me for this experience.
