Greenwich Kitchen, Greenwich
If you’re heading to the O2 Arena in Greenwich and looking
to grab some food before the show/game, it’s definitely advised to book in
advance. We made the mistake of thinking we could just turn up and waltz into
any restaurant and get a seat straight away – we were wrong. We’d booked to see
Micky Flanagan on a Friday night and thought what better way to start our
evening than a nice, sit-down meal. After fighting through the crowds for
about 30 minutes, with the start time growing closer and closer, that hungry desperation
was kicking in (it was also raining which didn’t help). We walked past the
queues at Nando’s, Cabana, Busaba and pretty much every other restaurant
inside, we headed outside and stumbled across The Greenwich Kitchen.
Admittedly, we only went in because they had tables
available which usually isn’t a good sign but GK certainly delivered. Seemingly
the only ones actually prepared for the crowds and people being in a rush, we
were sat, had ordered and had our drinks within about 10 minutes.
After being told that the burgers were the quickest, and by this time we had about 40 minutes until the show started, we each ordered either the GK Burger or the chicken burger. The GK burger is basically a steak burger served with cheese, Jack Daniels relish (YUM!) and fries, while the chicken burger is served with crushed avocado, lemon mayo and fries. Both were delicious, if not very messy. They were dripping meat juice and sauce everywhere but the flavours complimented each other and the meats were perfectly moist.
All burgers are priced around £12, seeing as it includes your fries too it’s a really good price for what you get. We were in and out in about 25-30 minutes, making the whole experience, although slightly rushed on our part, exactly what we needed. I highly recommend this place, although I do not recommend being as unorganised as I was.
The Greenwich Kitchen, it’s a thumbs-up from me.
